Antique or antique style: what is the difference?
A genuine antique bed is an old piece. It carries the wear and history of its time, and often the dimensions of its time as well, which do not always match a modern mattress. An antique style bed is new. It takes its look from the past, with classic proportions, curved headboards and aged finishes, but it is built today, in solid wood, for the mattress you actually sleep on. Some parts may be made of veneer or other wood-based materials. If you are looking for a true antique, an antiques dealer is the right address. If you want the look in a new bed, you are in the right place.
Patina and distressing: you decide how old your bed looks
Much of the antique look is in the finish, and New Grange offers three levels. No distressing, patina only, gives a calm, even finish without ageing. Light distressing gives a subtly aged look, with soft signs of use. Heavy distressing gives a pronounced antique character, with clearly visible ageing. You choose the level, and we confirm the finish in your quotation.
Several beds in this collection already show what this can look like: the Orleans bed in reddish brown patina and in warm brown antique with heavy distressing, and the Indochine bed in a lightly antiqued red-brown. That is how you get an antique looking bed with depth and warmth, new from the first day.
Antique white, black and natural wood finishes
Choose from 27 colours and wood tones. An antique white bed frame, in white or cream, suits a light, romantic room. Black gives a bed more presence. Dreaming of a white antique double bed frame? Period shapes: curved headboards and refined lines
Antique style is also a matter of shape. The sleigh beds in our Louis Philippe collection, Orleans and Victoria, curve outwards at head and foot. Directoire stands for clean lines and a headboard with a slight curve, while Ermitage has refined details and, on several models, woven detailing, and Indochine turned details. Your size, in an antique style bed frame
An antique style bed frame is made to order, so you choose the mattress size: an antique style king size bed for a king mattress (150 × 200 cm) or a super king (180 × 200 cm), an antique style double bed (135 × 190 cm) or an antique style single bed for a guest room (90 × 190 cm). The outer dimensions of the bed frame can differ from these mattress sizes and are confirmed in your quotation. A complete antique style bedroom
Bedside tables, chests of drawers and wardrobes can be made to measure in the style of every bed, with the same finish as your bed. Several are already in our collections, such as bedside tables and chests of drawers in Directoire, Ermitage and Indochine. The room then looks as if it has always belonged together.
